Skateboarding je druh zaujímavého športu.
História
Začiatok 60 rokov- v Kalifornii. Prvým jazdcom sa hovorilo side- walk- surferi. Jazdili na vlastnoručne vyrobených doskách, tieto dosky boli široké asi okolo 10-tich cm. A o dosť kratšie ako sú dnešní skejty. Jazdilo sa jednoducho a zatáčalo sa prenášaním váhy. Žiadne triky neexistovali. Dosky boli primitívne, kolieska nekvalitné a o podvozkoch ani nehovoriť. Kto chcel jazdiť, tak si svoj skejt musel vyrobiť sám.1965- boardy sa začali vyrábať priemyselne. Dosky boli z dreva a kolieska sa vyrábali z tvrdej gumy. V tejto dobe vznikali prví triky, ako státie na rukách a rôzne triky v bazénoch. Začali sa vyvíjať rôzne disciplíny ako skoky do výšky a skoky do diaľky. Vznikali aj prvé skateparky a stavali sa rampy. Začiatok 70 rokov- verejnosť odsúdila skateboarding ako nebezpečný šport. Zákon ho zakazoval, ale ako sa hovorí, zakázané ovocie lepšie chutí, tak aj skateboarding sa stal životným štýlom. 1979- firma Powell vytvorila prvé skejtové video, ktoré malo názov Future Primitive. Vďaka novým materiálom sa začali vyrábať bezpečnejšie kolieska. Na výrobu dosiek sa už nepoužívalo iba drevo, ale aj laminát, plast a dokonca aj kovy. V rokoch 1980 a 1984 sa skateboarding mohutne rozrástol, avšak stále bol ešte synonymom niečoho zakázaného. Moc tomu nepomohol ani vznik grafitov, pretože väčšina skaterov potom prevozovala oboje a skateboarding bol vďaka tomu považovaný za vandalizmus.So vznikom skateboardingu neskôr súvisel aj vznik prvých závodov. Prvým závodom sa stal World cup Skateboarding(WCS), ktorý sa neskôr stal súčasťou National Skateboard Association. Don a Daniell Bostich sa rozhodli, že budú usporaduvávať súťaže na celom svete. V roku 1994 sa do WCS započítavali výsledky z 3 súťaží, dnes je to však 18.Miesta kde sa súťaže uskutočňujú: Kanada, Anglicko, Nemecko, Česká republika, Francúzko, Švajčiarsko, Rakúsko a Brazília. Napád uskutočniť svetový pohár sa zrodil v hlave Dona Bostica v roku 1993, výsledkom toho že pomáhal uskutočniť MS v Munstery(Munster Monster Mastership World cup). Na rozdiel od toho, že v tej dobe bol skejtový priemysel na dne, videl potrebu založiť spoločnosť, ktorá by zastávala potreby skateboardistov aj mimo územia USA.
Po niekoľkých rokovaniach sa Titusom Dittmanom a Danielle Bostickom, sa nápad stal skutočnosťou a v roku 1994 uzrela svetlo sveta prvá súťaž WCS v Kanade(Vancouver) Slam City Jam. Súťaže, ktoré dnes voláme World Cup Skateboarding Tour sa začali v roku 1995. Prvým víťazom v kategórii street sa stal Ed Templeton, v Kategórii vert vyhral Mike Frazier. V tom istom roku sa k WCS pridal aj ESPN a tak sa skateboarding mohol dostať k miliónom ľudí prostredníctvom najznámejšej a dodnes aj najsledovanejšej súťaže X Games.Od roku 1996 vznikali ďalšie závody ako SPOT, Ventura is Skate Street, Mystic World Cup a Vans Triple Crown. V roku 1999, vytvorili WCS, Competition Guide a Rulebook knihu pravidiel a rozhodcovský manuál ako sa majú triky hodnotiť. Na Slovensku sa každoročne uskutočňuje niekoľko závodov a najznámejším z nich je .Quicksilver Skate Show v Bratislave. Pravdaže so vznikom skateboardingu neskôr vznikali aj časopisy , kde sa zapisovali všetky novinky, údaje a výsledky zo sveta tohto športu. Medzi najznámejšie dnes patria Transher, Skateboarding a ďalšie.Na Slovensku vznikol minulý rok prvý časopis s týmto motívom a jeho názov je Boardlife.
